Bruno de Maistre – Furniture designer

Bruno de Maistre is a furniture designer specialized in wood. Passionate about it, he sculpts it with gestures and techniques he masters, and is inspired by his knowledge of the history of antique and contemporary furniture to create.

In 1999, he began his university studies in applied arts at Penninghen and pursued them at Intuit/Lab between 2003 and 2005. Until 2008, he worked in an advertising agency, but his passion was stronger and led him to join the craft trades. So, he joined the Greta program at the Ecole Boulle (2009-2011), and in 2011 he founded BdM Ateliers. Since then, he has built up a team of five people with whom he creates exceptional furniture for private customers and interior designers.

Bruno de Maistre is keen to build bridges between the different crafts, and has no hesitation in setting up collaborations such as the ones with Ateliers Loire (2021) and Ballantine’s (2020).

Research and innovation

For Bruno de Maistre, the ancient dialogues with the contemporary, tools are timeless, and materials meet. Synergy, sharing, innovation and art, echo each other, giving rise to unique pieces such as a Louis XVI-style desk made with a 3D printer, or the Bureau Lyrique, which was added to the permanent collections of the Mobilier National in 2022.

Transmission

Bruno de Maistre’s aim is to promote craftsmanship through the transmission of his know-how. He runs immersion and discovery programs for companies and individuals, and regularly takes on trainees. In addition, he aims to create an ecosystem of fine crafts inspired by production schools.

Fondation Rémy Cointreau has supported Bruno de Maistre in 2022. It helped him acquire a device that makes a straight and flat piece of wood’s surface.
