Marie Grillo is a master glassmaker and stained-glass designer. Passionate about glass from an early age, she has studied stained glass and glass painting techniques at ENSAAMA and then at Lucas Nehou high school. During an internship, she has learned how to restore stained glass for historical monuments.
In 2015, she set up her studio called La Couleur du Verre. There, she works on pieces for artists, interior designers and private individuals. The glass she uses comes from European industries as well as prestigious manufactures.
2015 – Prix du Perfectionnement de la Ville de Paris.
2016 – Prix de la Fondation Banque Populaire.
2018 – Ateliers d’Art de France.
2019 – Label Fabriqué Paris.
Marie Grillo draws inspiration from the art deco and art nouveau movements to create the architecture of her pieces. The glass is then decorated with motifs of her own design or textured using sandblasting techniques. Color, material effects and the light effects all contribute to the vibrancy of her works.
Marie Grillo is keen to pass on her know-how. She organizes talks in schools and churches in Paris. These are aimed at amateurs, elementary school and students from the ENSAAMA stained glass workshop. Since 2023, she has been welcoming trainees in her workshop.
Fondation Rémy Cointreau has helped Marie Grillo in 2022 to acquire a plotter. This machine is used to cut stencils with precision and accuracy, enabling the craftswoman to obtain extremely fine sandblasted patterns.
