Maxime Bellaunay was graduated from the Ecole Boulle with a BMA in cabinetmaking (2016) and a DMA specialized in decor and surface treatment (2018). After a residency at Ateliers de Paris, he set up his workshop in the capital in 2020.
He sculpts the stone, combining it with other materials such as brass. His work is based on the creation of sculptural stone furniture, each piece being unique or in limited series. His commissions come from private individuals and interior designers.
Maxime Bellaunay travels and gathers new materials to create. The rough stones he discovers are a source of inspiration. He studies them, observes them, takes their origins as a starting point to carve objects charged with meaning. Gesture after gesture, impact after impact, the material reveals its form.
Since 2019, Maxime Bellaunay has been teaching two days a week at the Ecole Boulle in the Object Design department, as well as in the Ecole de Condé, where he supervises the prototyping workshop. He also plans to initiate residencies in his studio. The aim would be to welcome other craftsmen to develop collaborative projects.
Fondation Rémy Cointreau has supported Maxime Bellaunay in 2021 to acquire a set of stone-cutting tools and workshop equipment.
