Sylvie Deschamps – Art Master, golden embroiderer

Nouvelle-Aquitaine – 1971

Sylvie Deschamps is a golden embroiderer. After her studies, she has joined Etablissements Bouvard et Duviard in Lyon, specialized in the restoration of antique and religious embroidery. She stayed there during six years and then joined Le Bégonia d’Or, an embroidery workshop in Rochefort, where she is now the director. In 2010, she has received the title of Maître d’Art Brodeuse Fil d’or in France, guaranteeing the transmission of her know-how.

The Bégonia d’Or workshop was created in 1995 by Marie-Hélène César and the Rochefort town council. The workshop is dedicated to the restoration of antique pieces and the creation of contemporary pieces. Several collaborations have taken place with luxury brands, jewelers, antique dealers, interior designers and contemporary artists. These include Jean-Michel Othoniel, Valérie Belin, Martine Aballéa, Philippe Stark and Philippe Cramer.

Research and Innovation

Sylvie Deschamps is always looking for new innovative and contemporary projects, while working with traditional techniques. She has composed three needlepoint birds in relief with feather inlay, inspired by the world of André Charles Boulle, and has revisited the art of miniature, pointillism and expressionism for collaborations with Piaget.

Transmission

Every year, Sylvie Deschamps’ workshop welcomes and trains trainees of all levels, as well as people undergoing professional retraining. It’s a genuine training program recognized by the major luxury houses. The workshop is also an eco-museum and welcomes visitors to showcase her art.

Fondation Rémy Cointreau has supported Sylvie Deschamps in the acquisition of an embroidery machine in 2021.
